At the start of his NHS career Mark set up the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) at Central
Manchester PCT and then managed the PALS, complaints and claims functions at
He then went on to head up the Patient Services
and Resilience teams at Greater Manchester Commissioning Support Unit (CSU) and
North West Commissioning Support Unit.
During his NHS career Mark has spent time as a
Senior Account Manager profiling CSU services, seeking new business and
managing client and customer relationships.
In his current role as Head of Policy and
Corporate Operations Mark has responsibility for internal corporate governance,
partner relationships and the production of strategies and policies for the
effective operational management of the organisation. As well as ensuring that
GMSS has the appropriate systems and process in place to deliver effective
services to its partners.
Mark also heads up the Corporate Functions, Performance and Resilience functions.
Prior to joining the NHS, Marks background is
in information, advice and advocacy working in the third sector for the
Princess Royal Trust for Carers advocating carers rights, supporting carers to
access support and enabling carers breaks and respite.
Mark studied law at Sheffield University and
the College of Law. More recently he has completed a Diploma in Emergency
Planning, Response and Resilience (EPRR) from the University of Loughborough
and a Masters in Healthcare Leadership from the University of Birmingham/NHS
